HSE and The Health Promotion Dept

The Health Service Executive (HSE) was established in January 2005 as the single body responsible for meeting Ireland's health and social care needs. The HSE provides thousands of services to young and old, in hospitals, health facilities and in communities across the country.
These services range from public health nurses treating older people in the community, to caring for children with challenging behaviour; from educating people how to live healthier lives, to performing highly-complex surgery; from planning for major emergencies, to controlling the spread of infectious diseases.
The Health Promotion Department, HSE
The aim of the Health Promotion Department is to secure incremental health and social gain through working with key statutory/voluntary agencies and community groups in addition to securing a progressive reorientation of health services in respect of Health Promotion. Staff in the Department work with Managers and Professionals who are engaged in the planning and delivery of services throughout the Southern Region of the Health Service Executive, which impact on health promotion as appropriate.
