Lord Mayor's Volunteer Week 2010
Volunteer Week take places from the 5th-11th April 2010. The event, organised by Lord Mayor of Cork Cllr. Dara Murphy, is sponsored by Bord Gáis Energy with the Evening Echo as exclusive print media sponsors and 96FM and C103 as radio sponsors.
What is Volunteer Week?
The main aims of the week are:
- to say 'thank you' to volunteers
- to acknowledge the tremendous contribution volunteers make to our community
- to highlight good volunteering practice i.e. induction, development and training, working contracts
- to enable voluntary and community groups the opportunity to recruit a new generation of volunteers
Some of the events taking place include:
The Lord Mayor’s Volunteer Fair & Training Workshops in City Hall
200 groups will discuss volunteering opportunities with the public.
Friday, 9th April (4pm set-up to 9pm)
Saturday,10th April (10am to 5pm)
Sunday, 11th April (11am to 4pm)
The Lord Mayor’s Community & Voluntary Awards in City Hall
Wednesday, 7th April (7.30pm)
‘A Night to Celebrate Volunteering’ in Cubin’s nightclub
Friday 9th April
Cubin’s nightclub are celebrating volunteering in Cork by organising a charity night on Friday 9th April 2010. All proceeds from entry will go to community and voluntary projects in Cork. Tickets can be purchased for €10.00 at the door.
‘Celebrate the spirit of volunteering and the huge amount of work undertaken by volunteers by heading to Cubin’s on Friday the 9th April. See you there!’ The Lord Mayor of Cork Cllr. Dara Murphy
