Half Marathon
Link to half-marathon course
The Half-Marathon route starts on Ringmahon Road, just by the junction with the Skehard Road in Mahon.
- Participants will only be allowed to approach the start-line from the Skehard Road and will congregate on Skehard until just before the race starts.
- START TIME to be confirmed.
- Because of traffic and parking restrictions in the area on race day, we'll have additional buses to bring you from City Hall. Participants are asked, where possible, to use the buses and leave your car at home or use the Black Ash Park & Ride.
- Two important points on the course to be aware of: 1) where the half and full marathon split, just before Blackrock Castle - the half will be going straight, to run past the castle, while the main marathon will turn right, onto the Lough Mahon Amenity Walk; 2) where the half and full merge again, on the Marina at the junction with the Old Passage West Railway Line.
- The Half Marathon course will be marked every mile. The mile markers will be at ground level and will be blue and yellow.
The half marathon starts on the marathon course and runs with the main marathon course along Ringmahon Road and Castle Road, as far as Blackrock Castle. Just before the castle, the half marathoners split from the main field and continue straight, following Castle Road into Blackrock Village and onto the Marina.
The two fields merge again on the Marina and follow the 2010 course along Centre Park Road to the third relay changeover on Victoria Road. From here, it joins the city's South Link Road (N27) for a short distance to run into Turner's Cross.
Through Ballyphehane, the Lough area and Glasheen, the race heads onto the Model Farm Road (R608) and the final relay changeover at Kenley.
There’s a short steep downhill immediately after the changeover, but the final four miles of the route are almost perfectly flat. At Inchigaggin Bridge the route takes a righthand turn onto The Orchards (Inchigaggin Lane) and a right turn again onto The Carrigrohane Road (N22).
At the start of the Western Road, the race turns left and right again, bringing the runners onto Mardyke Walk, passing the University’s Mardyke Arena and FitzGerald’s Park. At the eastern end of Mardyke Walk, the route crosses over Mardyke Bridge, along Slí Cumann na mBan, onto the North Mall, along Pope’s Quay and Camden Quay, crossing over St Patrick’s Bridge to the wonderful finish on St Patrick’s Street.
