Volunteers Reception - Cork City Marathon & Ocean to City

Voluteers party Marcela & SandraVolunteers from Cork City Marathon and Ocean to City attended a reception in Cork City Hall hosted by the Lord Mayor, Cllr Terry Shannon, in January. As a marathon participant himself in 2007, Cllr Shannon knows at first hand how vital volunteers are to both event.

Speaking at the reception, Cllr Shannon acknowledged the massive contribution of the volunteers - volunteers who give up their June Bank Holiday Weekend to ensure that both events are so successful. The Lord Mayor thanked all involved in organising and supporting the events - Cork City Council, Bord Gais Energy, Meitheal Mara, the Business Houses Athletics Association (BHAA) and Athletics Ireland (AI), the Gardai, Fire Service, Civil Defence, Navy, the Port of Cork and and voluntary first aiders who provide such a vital service, especially on Marathon day.
