Youth Challenge

What is the Youth Challenge?

The Cork Youth Challenge takes place within the 10k as part of marathon race day. It’s for 15 to 18-year olds, but if needs be, an adult can run as part of the team.

It is NOT a race!

It is NOT competitive!

It IS an opportunity for young people over 15 years of age to be part of the Cork City Marathon. It’s fun, it’s challenging and it promotes fitness, activity, participation and mental health.

Each team will be led by a Challenge Leader, who must be over 18 on race day. The team leader doesn’t have to run as part of the team but can do so if desired.

How to Enter

You can enter the 10k at our registration page (please note, this link will go to EventMaster.ie for registration and open a new page).

How to register as a team for your school?

If you would like to enter as a team for your school, you will, first of all, have to agree to a team name – that’s probably the school name. Then the first person has to enter their team name into the field ‘team name’ in the registration, once the team name is entered it will come up in a drop-down for their teammates to join them.

Who can enter?

The Youth Challenge is for youths between the ages of 15 and 18. All participants must be 15 years or older on race day. Teams must have an adult – over the age of 18 – as the Challenge Leader. The Leader does not have to run but will be the point of contact for the marathon office. On Race Day, the Leader, should be available by phone in case of need.

How does it work?

Participants will start the race altogether and can either run as part of the group or run ahead if they prefer. They will then all meet at the finish line again.

Participants can enter as a team as explained above.

Each participant will wear a timing chip and will be able to find their finishing time on the official race results page after the race.
